The story of Max isn't so interesting as you would expect. How I got Max is pretty simple and straightforward. I was going to go on a 3 week vacation with my roommate to Illinois to go see my family because I don't see them that often as I would like to ever since I moved by myself to California at 19. Anyways I went with my roommate at the time to Petsmart to go get our cats an auto feeder so that the person who was going to be babysitting them at the time wouldn't have to be going over every single day to feed them. I'd feel like that would have been too much of hassle and I didn't want to be a burden so I'd thought I'd make it easier for the babysitter. Upon entering I noticed to my left that they had cats up for adoption. My roommate knows that I have such a soft spot for animals so she immediately said no and tried to move me to a different part of the store to avoid me seeing them but she didn't win. We went over to go see them and they all looked so sweet and loving. I was fascinated by them and as I was looking at each one, I saw one that caught my attention. He was a thin gray cat with white back paws who was staring at us.
I asked my roommate if we could please get the cat and she said no because we already had 2 other cats at home at the time. I honestly ignored her saying no and asked the worker there if I could see the gray cat. She proceeded to lead my roommate and I to the back so she can release the gray cat to be able to see him up close and how he would interact with us. Upon releasing him and seeing him close, he reminded me so much of my other gray cat named Matti. I bent down so I can get my ace close to him and he gave me a kiss with his nose to my face. That was the moment I knew I had to take him home with me. I begged my roommate if we could take him and she got won over by him when he started rubbing himself on our ankles and purring. I told the worker that I would like to take him. She put him back inside and led me back to the front where I met one of the owners of a pet rescue called Zazzy Cats. He introduced himself as Jimmy and proceeded to hand me a few forms to fill out as he told me that the cat I was interested in was named Max and that he was rescued from the Carson Animal Shelter. That Max was very popular among the workers at Petsmart.
I filled out the forms, shook his hand and continued with the shopping that needed to be taken care of before my flight. I later on received a text from Jimmy in regards to the adoption and how I was a good candidate for adopting Max. I was over the moon when I received the news but then I realized that I was going to be leaving in a matter of days and I wouldn't be there to ease Max into a new environment so I took a chance and asked Jimmy the owner if there is any way that Max can be taken care of while I would be away. I explained to him that I wasn't going to be in the state for almost a month because I was going to go see my family and that I really wanted to adopt Max. He said that he wouldn't mind taking care of him at his home while I away. I gave him the details of my return flight and made a payment for Max's adoption fee which is seen as a donation by the rescue.
So I left to go see my family leaving excited to finally be seeing them. When I came back to California, I immediately went back to Petsmart straight from the airport. I had agreed upon meeting Jimmy there and Max was already being put in a crate I could take home when I arrived. All the workers there seemed so bummed that he was leaving and would go up to Max to pet him and say their goodbyes. I thanked Jimmy and left back to the car. He's a big scaredy cat but he's so sweet. This was back in May of 2015 and he's been my sweet boy ever since. He's however not a normal cat. He wags his tail like a dog and acts like a dog. I call him "puppy" at times and he responds to it. If I tell him "come on puppy, let's go the living room", he walks by my side to the living room. He went from thin to chubby and adorable. Whenever I'm down, he's there for me to give me love and I'm thankful for that.
- Thank you to Jimmy and Zazzy Cats for making the adoption of max possible.
